Savory vegan bacon bits made from tempeh

Ingredients

  • One 8-oz. Package tempeh (soy-free if necessary)
  • ¼ cup liquid aminos
  • ¼ cup low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1.Line a plate with paper towels
  2. 2.Crumble tempeh into small pieces
  3. 3.Combine liquid aminos, broth, 1 tbsp olive oil, liquid smoke, maple syrup, cumin, and garlic powder
  4. 4.Heat remaining oil in pan, add tempeh and cook 1 minute
  5. 5.Add sauce and cook until liquid is absorbed and tempeh is crispy
  6. 6.Transfer to plate to drain excess oil
  7. 7.Season with black pepper
